Williams takes over

After six sub-200 games in Squad 6, sturdy Englishman Stuart Williams found a good line to the pocket to produce his best

performance of the tournament so far, posting 1389 over the six games of Squad 7.

Williams comes to Munich fresh from winning the 6th Cockatoos Open in Paphos, Cyprus last week, pocketing a cool €5,000 after defeating fellow countryman Dominic Barrett, 514-513 in the final.

"I'm ecstatic, especially after the first squad," joked Williams. "I was all over the place in the first squad really. I couldn't really work out what the best thing to do was and I was joking with the guys about being either the guy who wins or the one who misses the cut. That's how it felt, so I hope the lanes stay like this and not as they were in the first squad.

"This time I started off a little bit further inside. Ther were a lot more people who wanted to play inside in this squad and the oil carried down a lot faster and it became easier to hook the ball on this squad than it was on the last.

"Once the oil carried down it was a lot easier and I didn't really notice the pair to pair. On the first squad it was like night and day. With these new installations only the tiniest little things can make big differences. Maybe it's the way the sun shines through the windows. I'm not an expert, but when we were here for the Nations' Cup there were quite big differences when we were changing lanes."

The squad win and new tournament leader with 1389 means that Williams can now take a day off and explore the ancient and new of the historial city Munich.

Three more squads take to the Dream Bowl Palace lanes tomorrow (Friday), rolling at 11:00, 15:00 and 19:00 CET.
