Snow Collapses Roof of PBA Host Center Wayne Lanes

We have very sad news to report out of Waynesboro, Va., where Wayne Lanes suffered a roof collapse Saturday night due to snowfall.

BJI's current issue reports on a PBA Regional that had just been held there before Thanksgiving, the Decker Appraisal Services Baker Trios presented by Hammer. The winning trios team comprised PBA and USBC Hall of Famer, Tom Baker, as well as PBA Tour champion, Jason Sterner, and PBA regional titlist, Jeff Schrum. They won the tournament on Nov. 22.

The center also hosted a clinic last year conducted by USBC and PBA Hall of Famer, Amleto Monacelli, and five-time PBA Tour champion, Bob Learn Jr., with Bowling Revolutions Coaching.

The Staunton News Leader reported that no one was said to have been injured in the collapse and no one was in the building when it occurred. Waynesboro Fire Department Captain, Allen Shaum, told The News Virginian that "the assumption is the roof collapsed because of the heavy load of snow that fell on the building over the last two days."

The Staunton News Leader identifies the center's owner as Shawn Lavender, whom the news outlet credits for having "transformed the small, 12-lane business  . . . into a well-run outlet with some recent PBA Tour stops." Lavender also is said to own three pro shops in the general area.

Patrons of the center mourned its loss on Facebook. Sandra McDaniel wrote, "I'm so sorry to hear about the building collapse. My family and I love the bowling alley. We really hope ya'll will rebuild."

The center's own Facebook page posted today that, "Due to the roof collapse Wayne Lanes will be closed until further notice. We will setting a time for anyone with bowling equipment in the lockers to be able to be picked up. Thank you again for your support! Once we know for sure what the next step is we will be posting that on here as well."
