The Professional Bowlers Association and NeuLion, its partner in production of PBA’s online video streaming service, Xtra Frame, have announced a renewal of an agreement that has been in place since 2010, and another series of upgrades and enhancements for bowling fans around the world.
The all-new Xtra Frame service includes a brand new look and design for desktop users, along with other enhancements that will improve the viewership experience for PBA’s steadily growing fan base that uses mobile devices to watch the action while they are on the go.
The upgrades are in place as the PBA Tour heads into a three-event series of major championship tournaments, all of which will include extensive live coverage of qualifying and match play rounds leading into their ESPN finals. Other new or enhanced features include:
• The upgraded service features all new mobile and tablet apps.
• Fasterccess to event replays.
• A more advanced HD video player featuring “slow motion” capability that fans can control.
• Ability for fans to share with friends and other bowling fans via social media.
“The NeuLion Digital Platform is delivering an enhanced experience for PBA Xtra Frame subscribers, and we’re pleased that the PBA continues to see value in NeuLion’s technology and services,” said Dr. Kanaan Jemili, CEO of NeuLion. “We look forward to working with the PBA to implement new monetization features to drive additional revenue.”
Current subscribers will have access to the new website, but mobile device users may have to delete the old app and download the new app, at no cost.
“With NeuLion’s help, the PBA has delivered a one-of-a-kind digital home for fans of bowling from all over the world, and we look forward to enabling more access to the professionals and competitions who drive this hugely popular sport,” said PBA CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark.
Subscribers will experience the new Xtra Frame features beginning with live coverage of the Grand Casino Hotel & Resort Southwest Open Saturday and Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Eastern Sunday. The regional event also is the qualifying tournament for 38 players to advance to the FireLake PBA Tournament of Champions beginning Tuesday at FireLake Bowling Center in Shawnee, Okla.
