1368 for Svein Ake Ek of Norway for his first six games of the eight on the long oil pattern Thursday
morning was pretty good going and would have placed him pretty high in the standings of a normal European Tour event.
The 22-year-old from a town some 100 km south of Oslo is no rookie to the Norwegian national squad, having placed second in the masters of the 2007 European Youth Championships in Thessalonika, Greece and was also a member of the five-person team taking silver in that same championship.
"I had a little problem with the approach this morning and only had a first game of 180," Svein told us, "but I solved that with a better knee bend and managed to bowl well on the long oil through the other seven games. I used my Storm Prodigy ball to good effect and am pleased to be top of the leader board."
Svein Ake Ek had 1675 on the short oil pattern yesterday and his 1793 today has his 3468 16-game total 24 pins better than second placed Petri Mannonen of Finland, the previous tournament leader.
Mike Quarry of England sits on the cut of eighth place with 3304 after bowling just 1580 this morning. He hit 1724 yesterday of the short pattern.
