Thomas Larsen of Denmark must have had a multi-vitamin breakfast this morning as he came out onto the Dream Bowl Palace
lanes to roll 279 in his opening game and 267 in the sixth, putting together a six-game series of 1449 to take second place in the overall standings.
That gave the slim Dane a 241.5 average and, more importantly, a sure place in the top eight which means byes into the final rounds tomorrow morning.
"In the earlier squads I was bowling 1200s without really knocking down the pins," he told us. "Now, all of a sudden the corner pins started to fall. I'm more of a morning person than an evening person so it didn't bother me much to get up early this morning.
"I had a few little problems moving from pair to pair, but I was able to figure it out and stay out of trouble. Luckily, the Danish national team more or less followed each other, so we were able to help each other out. That certainly made the pair changes a little bit easier. "
Robert Andersson of Sweden is top gun with 1471 and Norwegian Mads Sandbaekken now drops to third.
Three qualifying squads remain today (Saturday), then the Desperado squad gives four players a shot into the finals, bowling just one game on one lane.
The finals commence with round one at 08:00 tomorrow.
