With a second-place finish in Sunday’s PBA Xtra Frame Storm Open at Liberty Lanes in Carpentersville, Ill., to go along with his win in the bowlingball.com PBA Maine Shootout earlier in the month, Ryan Ciminelli of Cheektowaga, N.Y., has taken a seven-point lead over XF Storm Open winner E.J. Tackett of Huntington, Ind., in the race for the overall Xtra Frame PBA Tour points crown and a $10,000 bonus.
Tackett earned 25 points for his win in Carpentersville, following a ninth-place finish in Portland, while Ciminelli picked up another 19 points. After two of 10 Xtra Frame PBA Tour events, Ciminelli and Tackett are the only two players with top 20 finishes in both events. The next tournament in the series is the PBA Downums Waste Services Greater Jonesboro (Ark.) Open presented by Xtra Frame, June 3-5.
The current top 10 in Xtra Frame PBA Tour points are: 1, Ryan Ciminelli 44; 2, EJ Tackett 37; 3, Tommy Jones 19; 4 (tie), Tim Gillick and Steven Taylor 18. 6 (tie), Patrick Allen, Shawn Maldonado, Sean Rash and Tim Mack 17; 10, Norm Duke 16.
