MEN'S FINALS:
It would be difficult, indeed, to point out the absolute highlight from the
four matches of the quarter finals in Singapore today. Some would probably say
the eighth perfect game of the 2004 AMF Bowling World Cup by Kai Virtanen and
going on to topple top seed Jason Belmonte of Australia. Or how about the
237-236 second game win by Israel's Yahav Rabin, picking up the momentum to run
seven strikes after an open frame start in the third game, taking out Filipino
Chester King?
Jack Guay of Canada, the man who rolled the
World Cup's first perfecto in Hermisillo, Mexico
and repeated the feat the following year in Sao
Paulo, Brazil, came close again with a 279 to
force a third game against home favorite Remy
Ong. The Singaporean came through, 223-218, to
maybe give his home country its first BWC title.
Who knows? Ong will face Hansen of Norway in the
semi finals.
Hansen won his place on the Sunday sheet by
cruising to victory over Belgium's Yves van
Eyken, 279 - 203 and 257 - 240.
Virtainen hopes to beat the strong and
powerful ball of Rabin in the second semi final
and maybe, just maybe, we could see a Finland vs
Norway final. But Israel and Singapore will do
their very best to thwart that.

SEMI FINAL 1:
Played Sunday, December 12.
It was the Scandinavians who won through to
contest the men's final of this AMF Bowling
World Cup in Singapore, and they brought an
ending that will remain memorable in the annals
of bowling history.
After one game each in the best of three finale,
Petter Hansen of Norway was working on a 279,
attainable should he strike out, and shut out,
opponent Kai Virtanen of Finland, who had
finished with 258.
Hansen is not known for a speedy delivery at the
best of times and he certainly took his time
with the first ball of his tenth frame. That
delay probably cost him the title, for he left
the 2-8-10 split to lose the match and the
title.
