KING FOR A DAY

Chester King of the Philippines (pictured) dominated the first round of the Singapore Open Men's Masters Thursday afternoon, averaging 225 at the halfway stage and holding just a five pin buffer over Malaysia's Zulmazran Zulkifli after the first eight of 16 games.
King hit a high game of 269 in this block and had six games over 200, just 182s in the sixth and eighth games spoiling the over-par run.
Zulkifli was in sixth place after the first four games but a run of 225, 241, 198 and 245 brought him up to second place.
Whilst the Malaysians played snakes and ladders, those on the downward trend included the ebullient Tim Mack and Sean Rash of the United States who both dropped three places after a promising opening four games, Mack to sixth and Rash to eighth.
Defending champion Dino Castillo of the United States is not faring so well this year. Currently in 27th place, the personable Texan only hit four games above 200 and had a low of 168.
Nobody has so far added to the pair of 300 games hit in the qualifying rounds by Dino Castillo of the United States and Cecilia Yap of the Philippines, today's high game so far being rolled by Y C Lin of Chinese Taipei with a 278.
The top six players after the 16 games will qualify for Friday evening's Stepladder Final.

Al Muraikhi takes over pole position and King is relegated to third place after this morning's opening two games. Two-handed delivery Belmonte sneaks into third place. Mack clings on to sixth place, the cut for the stepladder final.

UPDATED STANDINGS AFTER 12 OF 16 GAMES:
Al Muraikhi consolidates his lead and a 246 and 247 from Tim Mack brings him into second place. Overnight leader King has now dropped to ninth place. A second American, Sean Rash slips into sixth place.

UPDATED STANDINGS AFTER 14 OF 16 GAMES:
Now it's the ebullient Tim Mack leading the pack, taking over from Al Muraikhi with a 266 and 247 over the last two games. Aussie Belmonte comes into second and Rash is up to fourth. Five nations are represented in the top six right now.

MEN'S MASTERS - FINAL STANDINGS:
Top six qualify for Stepladder Final

Tim Mack continued his strikefest over the final two games to consolidate his position as top seed for the Stepladder Final later today.
Despite hitting 249 and 194 over the final hurdles, the sad story is for Sultan Abdullah of the UAE who dropped from fourth to eighth place and out of the final as Daniel Lim's 226 and 256 brought him up to sixth.
