VICTORY FOR GLOVER
A magnificent stepladder final, featuring
four different nations, brought the inaugural
Oltremane Naples Championships to an exciting
close. A packed concourse of supporters, with
many of the Italians having driven many
kilometers to see the Italian tenpin spectacle
of the year, gave favorable encouragement to all
the competitors but seemed to favor the eventual
champion, Zara Glover.
The format of this prestigious event calls
for the top seed, in this case Anders Ohman, to
be beaten twice before relinquishing his pole
position, and that was to be the story of the
night.
"I've got a 100 per cent record against
Anders Ohman now," said Glover after clinching
her victory. "I've played him twice before and
won, so this is my third victory against him."
Glover hit the third perfect game of her
career in the qualifying round, one of five in
this year's tournament, to win a one week
vacation on top of the 6,000 euro she pocketed
for the win.
This is the third victory for the fairer sex
on the 2004 European Tenpin Bowling Federation
Tour. Britt Brondsted of Denmark won the
Brunswick Euro Callenge in Thessalonika, Greece
in Marcg; Iben Tchu, also of Denmark, clinched
the Malta Open in June and now Glover makes it
three in Naples.
