Christer Danielsson of Sweden (pictured) cruised through the final four game stint to hold pole position as number one seed for the upcoming round robin. His four games of 248, 249, 215 and 228 brought him a 940 series and total pinfall over the 24 games to date of 5493.

This event rules that just 50 per cent of total pinfall is carried forward to matchplay, therefore he has 2746 and second placed Hermann Wimmer of Germany will run with 2657.

Hermann set the crowd alight with his final game, firing the first ten strikes but then leaving the 7-pin for a 289, which is 296 with his age bonus and now the tournament's high game for the €250 prize.

The best series of the morning came from Harry Mickelson of the United States with 979. Now adjusted to the jet lag from Alaska, Harry is in sparkling form to qualify in fourth place. He opened this morning with a 278 and then rode the crest of the waves for 236, 227 and 238.

Defending champion Torbjorn Halling of Sweden is still in the hunt, now in fifth place and determined to be on the podium, preferably on the top.

England's Ron Oldfield ahd a look of despair when this squad wagon rolled to a halt, thinking his score was not good enough to get into this year's final rounds. He was not aware that after the third game he was ninth, one pin behind Kalle Gaiser of Germany. Finishing with a 225 saved his skin and he takes eighth place. His scratch average over the 24 games is a grand 209.6.
