MEN - ROUND 3 - TOP 36:
Top 18 qualify for Round 4
What a tussle - what a show. Danielsson
with a healthy lead but then Oldfield, Horne
and Wimmer fighting to get to grips with the
slim Swede.
Then come the group endeavouring to get or
stay into the top 18 and a place in the next
round on Sunday morning. After another four
games at the crack of dawn, well, nine of the
clock, it is a field consisting of just the
leading octet for the seven-game round robin.
It's really tough folks!
So,
it came to pass that when the dust of this
squad had settled it was still Danielsson
(pictured) that led the field but a few slight
changes occurred with the followers. Horne
came back to second place and Oldfield dropped
to fourth whilst Wimmer trundled to third
place.
As the field slims down now to just 18 of
the male gender, we say farewell to past
champion Roger Pieters, he of the colorful
trousers, and offer commiserations to Rosario
Bellamonte of Italy on missing the cut by one
place and 42 points. Congratulations to Geoff
Gardner of England on surviving at 18th with
his 206.85 scratch average, although he's got
a fight on his hands to get into the top eight
tomorrow morning.
The men can now enjoy the delights and
sights of St Julian's and its surroundings.
The girls, however, have another four games to
get their field down to eight for their round
robin matchplay on Sunday morning.
