SINGLES RESULTS:
Yesterday (Friday) saw the Singles stage of the Globalair
Travel Malta Youth Open being held at the Eden SuperBowl, St. Julian’s, the
Doubles event having been completed on Thursday. The field of 70 youth bowlers,
all aged 24 or under, played six games, to decide the winners of each of the
four age categories (U-24, U-21, U-18 and U-16). From the four age categories,
Malta boasts an excellent 15 masters’ placings from the total of 30 up for
grabs.
The youngest
division is by far the largest, with a total of 39 athletes participating, all
aged 16 or under, the youngest bowler being Malta’s own Matthew Cossai at 12
years old.
The
individual scores of the single and doubles events are added together to decide
the ‘Masters’ standings, and the top six from each age category from the Masters
go on to play a Round Robin stage on Saturday morning. This stage will be
decided by a match-point system (2 points for a win, 1 for a draw).
On conclusion
of the Masters event, the winners of the U-16 and U-18 divisions will play in a
best-of-three final to decide the Under 18 Champion, and like wise the U-21 and
U-24 winners will face off for the Under 24 crown.
The climax of
the whole event will be the Challenge Cup – another best-of-three clash between
the two new champions to decide the overall winner of the 1st
Globalair Travel Malta Youth Open.
The event is
made possible by the backing of Globalair Travel Ltd., and the Eden Leisure
Group. Full details at
