SWEDISH LADIES DUMPED
Three Swedish ladies led their field at the beginning of the Round Robin,
but after the seven games all were out of contention. Neighboring Denmark's Iben
Tchu took top seed on a 202 average, amassing 5,571 points and winning five of
her seven matches. She was only bettered in this respect by Bigi Manico of
Switzerland, who won six matches, but was 17 points short of Tchu's leading
score.
Double Malta Open champion Sue Abela is getting a shot of making it three times
atop the podium, take third seed and she will take on Nicole Knopp of Germany on
the first rung of the stepladder. In the men's division, as expected, Peter
Smits cruised to first place, ending up over 150 points
ahead of nearest rival pro-bowler Jouni Helmini from
Finland, the only right-hander in the quartet for the
final. Third seed Paul Moor of England faces Leoard
Lowenhamn of Sweden in the first match.
