SATURDAY, JUNE 17
FINAL QUALIFYING SQUADS 'M' AND 'N':
SQUAD 'M'
It didn't take long for the 2006 Malta
Open's second 300 to be hit. The third game of
the opening
squad
on Saturday morning saw the magic perfecto
come in the third game from the talented hands
of Tobias Karlsson (pictured). The tall
Swede from Stockholm isn't quite sure just how
many 300 games he has to his credit -
"something between 15 and 20," he thinks.
Karlsson also has the honor of being the squad
leader with 1444, ten pins ahead of Mark de
Jong of the Netherlands and 20 atop Nunzio
Romano of Italy.
Past Malta Open champion Melissa Anastasi of
Malta came in with 1260 to lead the distaff
group to consolidate her position for the next
round.
Just the final six qualifying games now to be
bowled and then the men will cut to 48 and the
women to 36 for a further four games later
this evening.
Thomas
Gross of Austria held off all challengers to
lead the men's division into the second round
of the 2006 Malta Open but Sweden's Rebecka
Larsen, 25, from Varberg (pictured), lost the
exclusivity of first place when Zara Glover of
England equalled her 1356 in the final squad.
However, the Swede holds onto pole position in
her third Malta Open as she had the highest
last game.
