MEN - TOP 36:
Could Paul Moor hold on to pole position
as the total number of games reached 20?
That was the
question.
It was answered in the affirmative.
As the intrepid 36 remaining qualifiers
plowed through yet another four game series
in the third round, Moor held a slim ten pin
advantage over Belgium's Chris van Damme at
the start.
That buffer declined, just a smidgen, as the
dust of the hated battle settled after the
tenth frame of the twentieth game, but it
was still Moor at the top of the page, seven
pins clear of the lanky Belgian.
Bowling on the same pair of lanes, Moor and
Van Damme had a ding-dong battle right
through the four game tussle, the lead
swappig back and forth until Moor dropped to
a 187 in the third game. Van Damme took the
advantage with a 232, but Moor got back the
impetus with a 248 in the final game, 30
sticks better than the Belgian.
The magic figure of 205.45 determined the
cut at 18th position in favor of Sweden's
Pontus Halvarsson and Malta's Ray Falzon
Reale was the unfortunate one, in 19th place
and twelve pins too few to remain in the
competition.
The best finish came from burly Englishman
Stuart Williams, coming down the home
straight with a 277 and 264 on lanes 9 and
10, reputed to not be a favorite pair among
the top players.
