LADIES' TOP 36
Helen
Johnsson of Sweden retains her pole position in
the ladies' division and has gained a larger
buffer by hitting 3379 over her 16 games,
gaining a lead of 174 pins over second placed
Lisa Gardner of England.
Britt Brondsted of Denmark, always a threat to
anyone at the top of the leader board now sits
in third place, just 179 pins off the pace.
The women now cut to 18 for another four games
early on Sunday morning and the line came at
2980, a 186.25 average for last place Asa
Wetterlund of Sweden.
Hard luck stories for early squad leaders Karen
Byrne of England and Russia's Tatiana Smirnova
who failed to beat the cut. Also, local players
will be disappointed to see that the 2003
ladies' champion, Doris Camilleri, dropped to
30th place.
Just ten nations now left in the fray for the
ladies' division and they will take to the lanes
at 11:00 Sunday morning for a further four games
to select the top eight to advance to the round
robin. From that select group will emerge the
four for the stepladder final on Sunday
afternoon.
The top 12 ladies will be rewarded with cash
prizes.
