MEN - TOP 72 (Pinfall brought forward):
Four games, top 36 qualify four round 3.
It was said, in the forum who claim to know
these things, that if Paul Moor should take over
pole position in any tournament, he would be
three to one on in the betting to be the
ultimate champion.
"Really?"
commented the 26-year-old I.T. engineer from
Hull in north-east England, "that's certainly
news to me!
"I didn't get off to a good start in this squad
and Chris van Damme opened with a good game, but
I improved from the second game and pulled some
pins back. There were four or five of us
fighting for the lead and the totals were quite
close. When I moved to lanes 11-12 for the last
two games I changed my shot and got a lot more
area, so I'm pleased to have taken over pole
position."
There are still 13 nations represented in the
last 36 of the men's division and these
competitors will take to the lanes for tonight's
final squad at around 22:00.
The high game for the tournament so far is still
the 289 bowled by John Fitzsimmons of England in
his opening squad. Two players, Paul Moor and
Michael Sassen of Holland had chances of perfect
games in the final frames of the last squad, but
both fell at the last hurdle. Sassen finishing
with 266 and Moor 267.
