TOP 45 MEN - FOUR GAMES:

Kjell-Ake Gustafsson of Sweden's 12th ball going for 300
but leaving the 7-pin.

The honors switch to England now as Stewart Meadus, 57 (pictured), from the well-known northern town of Harrogate, swept to the top of the leader board. Bringing forward a score of 2742 from the qualifying round, Meadus added 259,192, 255 and 207 to bring his 16-game score up to 3671, including his 16 point age bonus, ousting previous leader Torbjorn Halling of Sweden to second place.
Once again, our tournament leader is a first-timer and has nothing but good to say about Malta and the Eden SuperBowl. "This tournament is terrific, so well run and dedicated to the sport of bowling," he commented. "I didn't feel that I bowled so well today, but a 756 over three games last night certainly put me in the hunt. I'll certainly do my best in the remaining rounds. I can stay focused on my own game and not worry about what is going on around me."

Kjelle-Ake Gustafsson, 53, of Mariastad in Sweden must have had a good breakfast this morning. Whatever Wheatie-Bangs he ate gave him plenty of energy to bowl an outstanding four-game series of 991and pull himself up from 30th place in the initial 12-game qualifying squads to pole position after 16 games.
The proprietor of an eight-lane bowling center in Mariastad, Gustafsson is really pleased with his first visit to Malta, impressed with both the Eden SuperBowl and the attractions of the island. "It's really nice to be able to mix a nice vacation with a bowling tournament and I'll certainly put this event on my bowling calendar," he commented. "I run a very busy bowling center myself, so it is hard to get away for a holiday, but I will certainly be back to Malta each year for this Senior Open."
Gustafsson opened his first game with eleven solid strikes, but left the 7-pin on the 12th ball to score a 299. "Most of the strikes were good," he said, "but the eleventh was lucky. I wasn't nervous with the last ball and felt it was good, so was disappointed to leave that single pin standing."
This would have been Gustafsson's third career perfect game but for that stubborn 7-pin.
Four more games await the top 18 qualifiers after this second round squad, then the field will be cut to eight players for the round robin. The stepladder final will feature the top four.
