WOMEN'S OPEN MASTERS: The 33 Masters
Finalists will play 16 games (8 games in Round 1 and 8 games
in Round 2). Top 6 bowlers after 16 games will qualify for step-ladder in Round
3.
Round 1 –
33 Bowlers will bowl 8 games
Round 2 – 33 Bowlers will bowl another 8 games. The scores of Round 1 will
be carried forward. At the end of the Round 2 based on 16 games total, top 6
bowlers will qualify for Round 3.
Round 3 - The 4th,
5th & 6th placed bowlers will bowl one game. Winner with
the highest score will qualify to meet 2nd and 3rd placed
bowlers for another one game competition. The winner with the highest score will
then qualify to meet the 1st placed bowler in a one plus one games
step-ladder grand finals. In the event the 1st placed bowler wins the
1st game, she will be declared the Champion. If the 1st
placed bowler looses the 1st game, there will be one more game
(sudden death) roll off on scratch to decide the Champion.
The above one
game play-off in the first & second matches is only to determine the bowler who
will move up to challenge the top qualifier. The maximum a bowler could drop is
one position. The maximum a bowler could move up is two positions unless he/she
moves into the next match.
THE SPINNERS SET THE TARGET
Chien Hsiu-Lan, 24, of Chinese Taipei (pictured) set the pace after the first
eight of the grueling 16-game stint of the Ladies' Open
Masters, averaging 214.56. With just five year's bowling experience, she leads a
talented field of international players and currently holds a 20-pin buffer over
Siti Khadijah of Selangor, with England's Zara Glover, the World Championship
triple-gold medalist, in third place.
Slim student Chien was ranked seventh last year of the Asian Bowling Tour in
Thailand and has one perfect game to her credit. Of course, she is one of those
unique 'helicopter' style players, spinning her eleven pound ball to amazing
effect.
Third-placed Glover suffered with two sub-200 games at the end of today's
session, saying: "The lanes are very difficult to read when you follow a lot of
the girls who are 'spinners'. I tried to bowl outside, but that didn't work. At
times I'm getting very confused."
Another player with similar problems is America's Diandra Asbaty. She commented:
"I'm not finding this very easy, but I'm still within 100 pins of the lead, so
I'm going to do a lot better over the final eight games tomorrow."
