2nd Indonesia Open
Tenpin Bowling Championship
It has been
confirmed that the 2nd Indonesia Open will run as
scheduled, through to
October 8, and that preparations are continuously
underway to welcome everyone to Jakarta at the
designated time, despite the recent bombing of the
Australian Embassy.
Many security measures have been taken to
maximize the safety of all participants of the 2nd
Indonesia Open so as to allow all them to fully
concentrate and enjoy this tournament. The bowling
center (Jaya Ancol Bowling) and the official Hotel (Raddin
Hotel) are located inside a secure gated compound, quite
a distance from the main road and well away from the
business area of Jakarta, the targets of previous
bombings.
As standard procedure, all vehicles, baggage and
persons will be thoroughly checked on entering the
compound and badges will be issued to all participants
and officials.
The above measures should help alleviate any concerns
over the running of the Indonesia Open, 2004. The
organizing committee and the Indonesian Bowling Congress
will strive to do their utmost to anticipate any
foreseeable contingencies to ensure safety. This
tournament has the full support of the Indonesia Sports
Olympic Committee and is very much anticipated in
Indonesia. As such, extra efforts are being made to
ensure the safe and smooth running of the tournament.
The substantial prize of 50,000 Rupiah (approx.US
$5,450) awaits the Men's Open division champion on
Friday evening and 25,000 for the Ladies' Open champ.
Saturday and Sunday will see the fifth leg of the
Asian Bowling Federation Tour (ABF) in which the leading
Asian players will compete for the Indonesia leg title
and the chance for a place in the Champion of Champions
event, which will be staged in Jakarta in January, 2005.
Defending
champions are Tim Mack of the United States
and Kirsten Penny of England.
