WOMEN'S MASTERS - First block:
 Sarah
Yap of Malaysia set the pace in the opening eight-game block of the Ladies' Open
Masters here at the SCAA Bowl in Hong Kong this afternoon. Bowling a 210 average
over the first eight of the 16 games, Yap had a high game of 256 and opened up a
30 point buffer over Filipina Liza Clutario, with Liza Del Rosario just 27 pins
further aback.
Local bowler Vanessa Fung hit the top of the leader board in the early games,
helped by a 258 in the third, but faded slightly in the home straight an now
lies in fourth position overnight.
Defending champion Wendy Chai of Malaysia is having problems adjusting to the
time change after the long overnight flight from the Netherlands, but is
determined to improve over tomorrow's final block.

FINAL STANDINGS:
 Liza
Clutario, 25, from Manila in the Philippines overtook Malaysia's Sarah Yap in
the home straight to qualify as top seed in the six-person stepladder final.
High games of 267 and 244 in mid-session made her the frontrunner.
Defending champion Wendy Chai of Malaysia enjoyed a fantastic eight-game series
of 1667 this morning to pull right back into contention, despite the jet lag and
injured foot. She's hoping to beat Del Rosario and Armein and advance to
challenge Clutario for a title double.
