THE FIFTH LEG OF THE ABF TOUR
The
Asian Bowling Federation, organizer of the
ABF Tour 2004,
confirmed the 60-lane Jaya Ancol Bowl
(pictured) as major sponsor
of the inaugural ABF Tour – Indonesia leg. A
total of U.S. $25,000 in prize money will be
on offer for the first time to winners of
the Indonesia leg,
which is scheduled be held on October, 2004
9-10 at Jaya Ancol Bowl in Jakarta.
The ABF
Tour successfully kicked off its inaugural
year in Malaysia in March, followed by three
additional legs in Thailand, the Philippines
and Singapore respectively before arriving in Indonesia
this weekend. While ABF continuously
searches for partners to undertake the
offering of attractive prizes to the
participants, besides just earning ranking
points towards the grand finals - Tournament of
Champions, Indonesia's top bowling
proprietor, Jaya Ancol Bowl,
took a bold step forward to confirm its
sponsorship of the Indonesia leg.
“When the Past President of ABF and the Tour
Organizing Committee Chairman, Mrs Vivien Fung,
invited us to host the fifth leg at Jaya
Ancol Bowl and the opportunity to also host
the Grand Final – Tournament of Champions, we did
not realize the that the Tour could reach
such popularity over such a short period of
time,” said Mr. Oky Harwanto Joedo,
Organizing Chairman of the 2nd
Indonesia International Open.
“To our
surprise, each leg of the Tour so far has
been watched by over 90 million viewers
world-wide which is a tremendous
achievement. It was only appropriate that
when the Tour
comes to Jakarta, Jaya Ancol Bowl is only
too happy to be part of this successful achievement,”
added Mr. Oky Harwanto Joedo.
“It give
us great pleasure to have a partner like
Jaya Ancol Bowl, who share similar visions
to make tenpin bowling not only popular in
Indonesia but also in the Asian region,”
remarked Mrs Vivien Fung, Chairman of the ABF Tour organizing committee and
Life Past
President of ABF.
"I am
confident that greater interests in the Tournament
of Champions
will be seen when the best of Asian bowlers
meet in the Grand Final, theTour of
Champions in January next year at Jaya Ancol Bowl,”
added the beaming Mrs. Fung.
The total
prize of US$ 25,000 is being offered to the
winners of the Indonesia leg, with the men’s
champion, taking the top prize of US$ 5,000
while the women champion will win US$ 2,500.
Another US$ 75,000 in total prize money will
also be on offer in the Tournament of Champions
where the top prize for the men is US$
25,000 and the women’s top prize is US$
10,000,
making the Tour one of the highest prized
tournaments in Asia.
The ABF
Tour comprises six Legs and a Grand Final,
the Tournament of Champions. Each Leg will
be staged over two competition days where
the top 16 men and 16 women bowlers from the
preceding International Open Masters Event
(Open Grade) will compete in a one-game
match play knock-out competition for the
individual men's and women's titles.
The
Tournament of Champions will be staged over
four competition days where the top 16 men
and 16 women bowlers (based on ABF Tour
ranking points), plus two additional
wildcard entries from the West Asia region
(thus totaling 18 men in the men's
division), will qualify to compete over four
rounds of competition for the coveted men's
and women's ABF Tour Champion titles.
The ABF
Tour - Indonesia will be shown on local
television stations of the six countries
where the tour is being held. It is also
broadcast later from parts of Europe,
Africa, the Middle East, central Asia, China
and Australasia with an estimated audience
of around 90 million.
