Unfortunately, Chris van Damme
faded into the sunset as he had no chance of
successfully defending his 2005 and 2006 Malta
Open titles. It would have been nice for him to
make it three in a row, "but it's not my week,"
he exclaimed. This was despite resorting to
wearing those multi-colored trousers that helped
him to the top of the podium last year. "If
you're going to beat me, I hope you're not going
to be dressed like that," commented Stuart
Williams to Chris before battle began.
When the totals for 24 games were published it
was an English show at the top of the table with
Stuart Williams still leading and Nick Froggatt
just eight pins aback.
A huge supporting crowd cheered Raymond Falzon
Reale of Malta (pictured) to a 264 in the final
game, which brought him up into eight and so a
place in the round robin. The final octet now
consists of three English, three Swedes, a
Dutchman and a Maltese. four of these will
qualify for the stepladder final.
