Still with the high average of 238.8, Stuart
Williams from north-western England leads the
men's
 field
of the 2007 Malta Open and is being closely
chased by fellow Englishman Nick Froggatt
(pictured), the Nottingham pro shop operator.
Nick hit a 279 in the final game and that was
matched by Ireland's Paul Stott, bringing him up
into the top 20.
Geert-Jan van Baest, the Dutchman who was
matching Stuart's progress up until the last two
rounds, has dropped back to fourth place as the
field now cuts back to the top 18 for the next
round.
Defending champion Belgian Chris van Damme is
still in the hunt, albeit currently in 17th
place, so having to work miracles to get into
the round robin.
The final qualifying place, 18th, went to
Dominic Barrett of England with a 221 average.
The next men's round will be a further four
games, then the field will be slashed to just
eight for the round robin. The top four from
those seven games will qualify for the one-game
stepladder final.
