scratch
Players positioned 1-12 is qualified for the
final step 4
Players positioned 13-24 will be ranked 13-24
according to their position in the final step 3
Mika
Koivuniemi (pictured) was the top of at least
six players to exceed 900 over the four games of
stage three of these interesting finals,
shooting a very nice 938. The tall Finn, a
long-time bowler on the American PBA circuit,
held a five pin buffer over Sweden's Peter Ljung,
competing strongly despite an injured knee and
in third place came Tore Torgersen, a Norwegian
but living a long time in Sweden. Torgersen hit
931 but should have reached a higher pinnacle,
having the misfortune to score only three with
his last ball of the tenth frame of the last
game, following a double. Other
good scores came from Bill O'Neill, another PBA
pro bowler, and England's Dominic Barrett, tied
on 925, and Lasse Lintila from Finland, coasting
with 921. It is great to see
both remaining girls Helen Johnsson and Nina
Flack, Swedish national team-mates, still in
contention. The twelve
qualifiers now play a further four games and the
top four will advance to the semi-finals which
will be total pinfall over two games.
