As the first of the two men's squads
reached 18 games this evening, Petteri
Salonen of Finland, the previous squad
leader, found himself well and truly
overtaken by Brazil's 20-year-old student
Marcelo Suartz.
Suartz had an incredible six-game series of
1,518 with a high game of 279 this evening
whilst Salonen dropped back to a 1,271. Remy Ong
of Singapore came closest to shooting the second
300 with a 287 in his third game of this
evening's block.
Thanks
to Dominic Gall of Talktenpin.co.uk, who did
manage to log on to the official website, we
learn that Jason Belmonte (pictured) retained
pole position through the 18 games but there is
a surprise in second place with Glenn-Morten
Pedersen of Norway putting in a high six-game
series tonight to finish just 87 pins behind the
Aussie.
The second perfect game of the 2007 World Cup
came from Argyrios Ketsetzis of Greece
(pictured, right). Ketsetzis, 36, a
bowling center proprietor making his World Cup
debut, rolled his perfect game as the fifth in
tonight's series. His six games totaled 1,321
and came in the order of 254, 189, 202, 173, 300
and 203. He now lies 27th in the standings so
still has work to do to get into the top 24 for
the next round.
Bill Hoffman, who had been
tailing Belmonte through the three squads, fell
back to fourth place. Maybe his cunning plan
failed to deliver the strikes tonight.
