One of the great pleasures in our bowling
lives is to attend a truly friendly
tournament hosted by a
superb
bowling center proprietor.
Such is the Alpa Bowl in Buxtehude, near
Hamburg, Germany, today hosting the finals
of the 2007 EBPA Senior Tour. Genial host
proprietor Kalle Gaiser (pictured),
well-known for his skills on the lanes and
also a finalist in this event, has two
centers in this area, 16 lanes here and a
14-laner in nearby Stade. They are both
beautifully designed and furnished
facilities and, believe it or not, won a
gold medal for the quality of food in the
restaurants against strong opposition from
all restaurants in the area.
The format of the finals today consist of six
games for those qualifying in the Tour rankings
in places 11 - 30. Tne top ten from this group
will then join qualifiers 1 - 10 for a further
six games.
The highest eight from that round will
progress to the finals which will be featuring
two groups: 1-4-5-8 and 2-3-6-7. Each group
plays one game and the lowest scorer drops out.
That format continues through to the title match
with the winner of each group contesting the
absolute final.

Players receive one pin per game handicap for
each year of age from 57 with a maximum of 15
pins.
Past Malta Senior Open champion Torbjorn
Halling (pictured) from Sweden hit the fourth
perfect game of his illustrious bowling career
and the first of the EBPA Senior final in his
third game Saturday morning.
