MASTERS' - FINAL BLOCK:
Yesterday's first eight-game block of this year's Malaysian Open Masters saw local bowlers Daniel Lim and Zandra Aziela at the top of the respective men's and ladies' leader boards. Both are members of the highly respected Malaysian Elite squad.
Lim has whizz-kid Choi Bok Eum on his tail. The Korean youngster won the Youth Division of the Malaysian Open yesterday, rolling ten games with a 227 average, before switching to the Open Division and another eight games.
Aziela is being challenged by two of her compatriots, Siti Safiyah holds second place and Esther Cheah is third in the overnight standings. There will cetainly be keen competition between this trio on the lanes today.

A shock for Daniel Lim after the first two games this morning. The overnight leader has been deposed to fourth places as Joung Seong Joo of Korea zoomed into the lead with 525. Alex Liew's 474 held second place. Tim Mack nearly lifted off bottom place with a 232 in his second game and maybe, yes maybe, he will start to work his way up the table over the next few games, but in the stepladder finals? No way.
The three Malaysian girls are still enjoying their strikefest at the top of the ladies' table and Cheah is putting on the pressure to improve a place or two.

Wow! A 177 and a 236 has enabled Tim Mack jump up two places, the first time he has been off the bottom of the table since goodness knows when. But wouldn't it be a fantastic if Choi Bok Eum made the double of the Open and the Boy's Open? Korea are one and two right now and looking very strong.
Defending champion Alex Liew is still strongly in contention for his place on the six-person stepladder final and will certainly be the guy to beat if he gets there.
Four Malaysians now ahead of defending ladies' champion Diandra Asbaty. The fight in that division now seems to be for sixth place.

Game 123 overall and a 280 from Korea's Joung Seong Joo takes over the lead from team-mate Choi Bok Eum. Then Jason Belmonte's 256 brought him to third. The three Malaysians fill those vital fourth to sixth places, but with three games yet to be completed nobody is sure of a stepladder final place.
Daindra Asbaty is stringing together some solid 200-plus games and looks set to get into a strong position to defend her title successfully but still has four Malaysians to topple to get the prestigious number one seed spot.

The first 300 in the Open came from the tender hands of Zandra Aziela in game 14, currently topping the ladies Open Masters' table, now with a 3324 total pinfall, but still being chased closely by her compatriots in the Malaysian Elite squad. Status quo for the top six on the distaff side for the moment.
Jason Belmonte's 269 in game 14 gives him a solid third place and it doesn't look as though he's going to fade over the final hurdles, as he did in last night's eight-game block.
If you're watching the progress of Tim Mack, he's come to life and has advanced to 29th place.
Just two more games to go and then the decision can also be made as to who will represent Malaysia and the Rest of the World in tomorrow's prestigious Canon Cup.

Going into the last game it looks as though the battle is for sixth place in the men's division and Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong has to beat Zulmazran Zulkifli by 20 pins to get into the stepladder finale.
Diandra Asbaty has booked her place and it could be Malaysia, USA and Singapore to contest the laurels.

Wu Siu Hong's bid for the sixth place ended in a tie with Zulmazran Zulkifli and a one-game roll-off will decide who goes forward, so the final standings await that result.
The six ladies' in the stepladder are, in order of seed, Zandra Aziela, Siti Safiyah Amirah, Zatil Iman, Diandra Asbaty, Daphne Tan and Esther Cheah.
That vital sixth place on the men's stepladder goes to Wu Siu Hong, 254-236 in the roll-off.
