The last games I witnessed were those four of the fantastic final of the World Tenpin Masters in Barnsley, England, when Jason Belmonte of Australia defeated home player Paul Moor, 566-542, over two games. 'Belmo' set his marker with a 300 in his opening game.

Now I'm over to Istanbul, Turkey, and as I walked through the door of the Time Out Bowl, there was Mathieu Berges of Switzerland on the first ten strikes. He followed those with one more, then suffered the sight of a 'washout' with his final ball for a 296. At least he has the consolation of being at the top of the leader board for the time being.

The standings below apply for the 18:00 squad Wednesday. There is one more squad to bowl this evening at 21:00. Most of the tournament organizers will be displaying their skills in this squad. For the rest of the tournament they will be very busy handling the 200-plus entries expected over the weekend. Also on this squad are hard-hitters Andrew Frawley and Jason Belmonte.

Those two travel-weary Aussies were not to make any impact on the leader board this evening. They did not sleep at all last night as they traveled down to Gallipoli for a special ceremony to mark the historic landing there by Australian troops in the first World War.

Next squad - 09:00 Thursday.
