SAN MARINO OPEN
FINAL - STAGE 2
The top 18 after the four games of Stage
1 will be joined by positions 7-12 from
the original qualifying standings to
play a further four games, starting from
scratch. The leading ten will then
progress to Stage 3.
An outstanding seven of the 13 players
here from the Malaysian national team have
now made it through to
Stage 3 of the final.
A total of seven go through (pictured). Daniel Lim
(left) led the field in this second
stage. The 31-year-old has been playing for
his country for more than eleven years and
we reckon he has enough medals to sink a
battleship. With loads of individual titles
and medals to his credit, his choice
for the best-ever is still the Malaysian team
gold in the WTBA Men's World Championships
in Korea last year.
Several fancied for the latter stages of
this popular event have now bitten the dust
and perhaps one of the biggest surprises was
that Jouni Helminen, now the president of
the Finnish Bowling Federation, who fell by the
wayside at this stage.
Martin Larsen, also high in the European
Tour rankings, was the man on the edge.
