TOURNAMENT JOTTINGS:

We can hardly boast of an impressive media room here in Monterrey for the Women's World Championships, especially as we only have two internet cables available. On being told of this situation, Swedish journalist Thord Lagercrantz offered the use of his. "I have two cables," he stated, "one short one and one long one."
"Ah!" remarked Sweden's coach Magnus Johnson. "Do you use one for short stories, and the other for long items?"

Israel has just a lone representative in this event Mor Aviram, sister of well-known international Or Aviram. The tournament listing has her name as Aniram, so I asked if that is female for Aviram. The Aviram family has the distinction of having had mother, son and daughter all as Israel's competitors in the AMF Bowling World Cup.

The honor of rolling the first perfect game goes to Korea as Kim Yeau Jin hit the twelve solid strikes for a 300 in the second game of Doubles.

There's a mighty big problem for newly-elected FIQ President Jessie Phua already. Incumbent Secretary General Danny Santos of the Philippines has just released the information that his hotel room was entered and all his possessions were stolen. These included his laptop on which all the FIQ business records were stored and also all FIQ backup files were taken.

There are two interviews now being shown on youtube.com, the first is with Kevin Dornberger, the second with Jessie Chua. Kevin is the newly-elected president of the World Tenpin Bowling Association (WTBA) and Jessie also a new president, this for the Federation Internationale des Quilleurs (FIQ). As you might have seen on the results pages, England hit a mighty blow with a fantastic 1261 second game in the team event on Tuesday morning, beating the previous record by over 100 pins. "What did you have for breakfast that made you all bowl so well this morning?" I asked the vibrant Zara Glover. "We are definitely not morning people and had little to eat. We were all half asleep and only started to come to life in the second game," she replied. In the third game the quintet returned to quieter climes: "Most of us were shaking for the first few frames after that scoring spree," Zara added.
In the first game of the Team event, Denmark hit 1165 to set a new record, but they faced the disappointment of it only lasting one hour.

Another interview, this time with Craig Woodhouse of Canada, currently coach to the Dominican Republic coming up. Craig can be blamed by some for recommending the dual lane pattern to the WTBA. He comments on its pros and cons. Go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDQJ2vNx4w0.
