DOUBLES - GAMES 7 - 12 - LONG OIL PATTERN:

SQUAD 1 (Sunday, 14:30)

Finland's Minna Mikela and Jaana Stromberg (pictured) managed to keep their pole position after the opening game of the second block despite a fairly disappointing score of 336, bringing their seven-game total to 2957. Hot on their heels are Sweden's Christel Carlsson and Nina Flack, eight pins in arrears.
Third place is held by the English mum and daughter combo of Pauline Buck and Jemma Smith, bowling the second highest game of this opening block, a 432.
A solid 464 from the Finns in the second game saw them stamp their authority on the proceedings and open the gap over second-placed Sweden, 3421 - 3360. Now comes a strong challenge with 393 from Germany's Tanja Thiessen and Tina Hulsch, combining for 3302 for current third place, demoting the English to fourth after their 358.
Finn Stromberg has the high game on this squad, a 258 in game two.
Now halfway through the block and Finland still tops with a 439 and 3860 total. Making up ground, Sweden hit 457 and close to 3817. England back in the frame with a nice 459 for third place on 3733 and Germany slip to fourth, 410/3712.
Status quo after four games with the top two places, although the gap between Finland and Sweden narrows as the Swedes hit 405 to Finns 373. Germany had a great 460 to move back into third place, whilst England's 356 dropped them to fourth.
Germany nudge up to second place after game five, thanks to a 279 from Tina Hulsch, and come just 15 pins behind the Finns. The English dropped to seventh after a low 360 and the Danes threaten once again, now up to fourth.
The highest game of this squad, a 490, goes to the Czech Republic's Jana Maresova and Dana Hanusova.

End of the first squad and Finns Jaana Stromberg and Minna Makela have set the target of 5077 for a spot in the top four to contest the medals tomorrow evening. A final game of 447 got them away from the challenges of Sweden and Germany, but the Swedes came up into second spot after a 463 and the Germans just managed 375.

Top scorers of this squad were Germans Tanja Thiesen and Tina Hulsch, contributing 1219 and 1311 respectively for their 2530 total. They were well ahead of the Swedish duo of Christel Carlsson and Nina Flack on 2492, although Flack came in with a 1299 series, second to Hulsch.

SQUAD 2 - MONDAY, 09:00:
Highlight of this morning's play is, of course, the perfect game by Germany's Patricia Schwarz (pictured), bowled in the third game of the second set. The scores are much higher today on the long oil pattern and so far it is looking as though the 5077 target set by Finlands Stromberg and Mikela will be beaten, but strange things have been known to happen in the home straight.
Danish sisters Mai and Anje Jensen are setting a hard pace and only need to average 349 a game to equal current first place and bid for a place in the semifinals later this evening. Nobody will take any bets on them not succeeding.
The final games saw the deadly Danish duo set a new high with 5205 but strong competition came from another Finnish combo, Reija Lunden and Pititta Kantola, just three pins back on 5202. A double and a nine count in the tenth frame from Anja Ginge Jensen kept the noses of the Danes in front.
Schwarz,30. now living just outside Helsinki in Finland with Mika Luoto, hit 1477 on the long oil pattern today and rolled her fifth career perfect game. Her six-game total on the short oil was just 1165. "I normally bowl much better than that on the short pattern. I did hot the pocket all the time but just didn't get the carry, so I left a lot of single pins," she commented. "That is something I will have to work on."
