FANTASTIC EWC 2006 OPENING CEREMONY
"I promise you a lot of highlights,
excitement and emotions during the coming days
of this wonderful championship with entirely
new formats," said Kim Thorsgaard Jensen,
vice-president of ETBF, the
main
speaker at the enjoyable opening ceremony on
Friday evening, impressively making his
presentation in both English and German.
"We owe a great deal of gratitude to the
DBU," he added. "This is a world record third
large international event they have hosted in
twelve months, having staged the European
Champions Cup here in Boblinglen last
September, the World Youth Championships in
Berlin in July, and now the first-ever
European Women's Championships back in this
beautiful center in Boblingen.
"Welcome to you all, good luck and good
bowling," he added.
On behalf of the local bowling federation,
Irene Dauber added her welcome to the ladies
representing 22 nations. "I wish you all high
scores and a lot of new friendships. And the
best of luck to the tournament committee and
all the tournament staff."
The ceremony consisted of a colorful parade
of all competitors, well orchestrated and not
too many speeces, a point much appreciated by
all.
The evening concluded with a reception in
the bowling center restaurant.
The tournament gets underway Saturday
morning with the first six-game block of
doubles on the short oil condition. The
players will start their second block on the
long oil pattern on Monday. They then progress
to trios, five-person teams and the top 24
will qualify for the Masters.
