The fourth woman to fall at the first hurdle,
Kirsten Penny fought a valiant battle and looked
to be holding off the challenge of the stocky
Canadian. Schmidt changed to another bowling
ball in the tenth frame of the first game and
struck three times. He stayed with that ball
through the second game, adding another string
of five strikes and looked likely to roll
a perfect game, but an eight-spare in the sixth
frame put paid to that. Penny hit a nasty split
in the sixth frame and that brought any chance
of good fortune to an end. Result - a nice 63
point win for Schmidt and he will meet the
winner of the next match, Brondsted v Barnes.

Once again, all five women have been defeated
in the first round. Brondsted had an almost
impossible task to take on a top PBA bowler in
Barnes, a man who has won $300,000 during the
past week and is right on top of his game. Wife
Lynda was in the commentary box for this match
and was very pleased to see hubbie emerge the
victor. Barnes will be in an all-North
American encounter in the next round where he
faces Michael Schmidt of Canada. ROUND TWO - Match 1:
GUY CAMINSKY (South Africa) vs JENS NICKEL

The 'Bremen Assassin' made short work of ousting
Guy Caminsky from the opening match of the
second round of the Masters' tonight, opening
with a first gmae lead of 54 points and winning
the second leg, 236-199, for a 91 pin overall
victory.
"Nickel will win this match by about 100 pins,"
forecast deposed three-time champion Tore
Torgersen whilst watching both bowlers rolling
their practice frames. "Caminsky's timing is way
off and their is no way that he can catch the
German."
Those words turned out to be completely accurate
and Nickel has now booked his place in the
semifinals and the possibility of meeting
England's Paul Moor, his losing opponent in last
year's final. If Moor wins his second round
match tomorrow, he will certainly relish taking
on the stocky German.
