SWEDISH TRIO TOP THE LEADER BOARD
As Squad 'C' finish their twelve-game
stint, the cream rises to the surface as
defending champion Torbjorn Halling, 63, from
Sweden set the new high of 2717 in the
men's division of the 2005 Malta Senior Open,
ousting fellow countryman Walter Feldhofer
from the prime position. Halling also won the
Senior Open in 200 0,
so is now looking at picking up his third
title. He laughed when asked of his chances
for this rare feat, "There's still a long way
to go, but it would be very nice to win for a
third time," he commented.
The consensus of opinion seems to be that
the Eden SuperBowl lanes are tougher this year
for the seniors. Halling said, "They are fine
for me, but I'm using a different bowling ball
this time for the synthetic lanes. I'm bowling
a much tighter line than normal and that is
suiting me just fine."
The dynamic Swedish pair of Barbro Hjerten,
64, and Ewa Krantz, 52, are tied on 2350 to
lead the ladies' division. Both are from the
town of Boras and have been playing together
in the Calluna Club for some fifteen years.
Hjerten was runner-up to Bep van Os as her
best finishing position in the Senior Open;
Krantz is competing here for just the second
time.
