MEN - TOP 18
After the last four games prior to the round
robin, Owe Hermann of Oslo, Norway (pictured)
retains pole
position
and leads an octet comprised of six nations
into the penultimate round. As usual, Swedes
outnumber the others, but this time only three
have made the cut.
Bowling without any age bonus, an advantage
which clicks in at the age of 57 with one pin
per year bonus from then on, with a maximum of
15, Hermann bowled a 219.08 average over the
24 games to date. Going in to the round robin,
just fifty per cent of the aggregate pinfall
will be carried forward, meaning that the
49-point advantage he currently holds over
second-placed Meadus will be reduced to 24.
Stewart Meadus, born in Canada but a
resident in Harrogate, northern England since
his third year, has had a lock on second place
for the past three rounds.
The field now includes two past champions,
the defending champ, Torbjorn Halling,
currently fourth, and 2003 victor Roger
Pieters, now in third place.
The most disappointed competitor must be
Rosario Bellomonte of Italy, running in
seventh place at the beginning of this squad
and then dropping to twelfth when the dust of
battle had settled.
The round robin for both men's and ladies'
divisions kick off at 12 noon and the opening
round will feature the two past champions,
Halling and Pieters against one another in the
men's round and local support will be for
Malta's Doris Camilleri playing Yvette Murrath
of Belgium.
