MEN - TOP 36 - ROUND THREE
Well, well, well. After leading the
tournament from the qualifying round and then
the next four games, Sweden's Torbjorn Halling
has suddenly lost the plot and the small city
of Boras can no longer boast of having the
leaders in both divisions.
But
all credit to Owe Hermann of Norway (pictured)
who shot to fame with a great four-game block
and now holds a 36-point over Stewart Meadus,
a Canadian now resident in Harrogate, northern
England.
A run of 189, 234, 216 and 235 brought Hermann
to the fore, bringing his overall tournament
average up to 219, bowling scratch as one of
the younger set.
Meadus, receiving two points per game,
consolidated his second place but defending
champion Halling's 753, plus 28 bonus, dropped
him to third place. Still in contention is Ron
Oldfield from England in fourth place, chased
by 2003 champion Roger Pieters of Belgium in
fifth.
The cut to the top 18 came at 4091to the
advantage of Sweden's Arne Hybelius, just a
single point ahead of Peter Fehr of Germany,
now sidelined.
The men can now put their feet up as they
are not scheduled to bowl again until the
opening squad on Saturday morning at the
bewitching hour of 09:00. Bowlers from seven
nations are now left in the hunt for podium
positions.
The final squad for Saturday evening
consists of the last 18 ladies bowling four
games for the cut to eight round robin places.
