AND NOW, LADIES AND GENTLEMAN, THE CUTS COME AT .............

The scores of tournament leaders Torbjorn Halling and the tied ladies' division leaders Barbro Hjerten and Ewa Krantz, all from Boras in Sweden, withstood all challenges from the later squads and stand as respective pole positions when the qualifying rounds were completed quite close to the bewitching hour of midnight on Friday.

But a lot of interest lies at the other end of the scale where that vital cut line segregates those who continue through Saturday and the others to while away their time either as spectators or tourists.

Beryl Henson of England is the lucky lady to place 36th and hold a passport into the second round. In the men's position two groups go forward, places 37-72 will open play Saturday morning and squeezing into that illustrious group in its final place is Sergio Bellini with 2357. The cut for 72nd place in England's Geoff Gardner, tieing with Sammy Borg but going through with the highest last game.
