WOMEN'S DOUBLES -
Long Oil pattern
Tails are a'wagging down south in Kuala
Lumpur as the Malaysian duo of Mei Lan Cheah
and Iman Zatil posted their first gold medal
after Malaysia has been winning bronze in
both men's and women's divisions in all
previous events.
 And
just for good measure, along came Siti
Safiyah and the irrepressible Shalin
Zulkifli to make sure they kept the record
of taking bronze.
Despite huge local support and deafening
cheers for every ball bowled, Kunaksorn Saowapha
and Angkana Netrviseth hit a lowly final game to
take defeat from the jaws of victory. Maybe the
vocal support just put too much pressure on the
fair ladies.
Excitement abounded in the final game as
Filipina Liza del Rosario from Manila hit the
first eleven strikes to look set for the
tournament's first perfect game this year. Alas,
the final ball hit the headpin a little high and
she left the 4-7 for a 298, which is still the
high game, men or women.
