Core Design: The unique stepped-symmetrical core shape, with the mass centered well above the geometric center, helps delay and increase the back-end hook motion. The RG is medium at 2.53 and the Diff strong at .045. We saw nearly 5” of track flare with stronger 3 and 4” layouts using lower quadrant weight holes.
Coverstock: The 2Furious’ cover is sanded at 2000 Abralon to provide more mid-lane motion with a gradual move off the friction in the final 20 feet of the lane. Oil traction was slightly above average and response time off friction was moderate with the out-of-box finish. Colors are a mix of victory red and Daytona blue. Sensitive noses will appreciate the sweet smell of cherries.
Manufacturer’s Intent: “We presented the 2Furious with a 2000-grit Abralon matte finish to provide better traction than the 2Fast’s highly polished finish,” said Hank Boomershine. Both the 2Fast and 2Furious help strengthen Storm’s mid-priced lineup.
Test Results: The 2Furious will hook slightly earlier — and more — than a comparably-drilled Furious. The newly designed core is what causes this phenomenon, as the cover is exactly the same, other than color pigment. Overall motion was strong in the midlane with a smooth, gradual arc; none of us saw any skid/flip motion on any of the test patterns. Even angular drilling layouts and/or polishings could not create a long and strong reaction. This is likely a combination of the new core and the fact the R2S cover is no weakling. Roll predictability and pin carry were vintage Storm, but this series is tamer downlane than last year’s line.
When to Use: Use the 2Furious when your pearlized ball is squirty, or reading too late on the pattern. The 2Furious offers a strong mid-lane motion with an arcing finish. Total hook is in the medium to medium-heavy range, so most bowler styles will have no issues on oilier or longer patterns. We felt we needed to keep our launch angles somewhat closed on the heavier patterns, though, as the 2Furious is not a send-it and bend-it ball. Higher ball speeds and lower rev rate players will find more uses than may slower and/or high rev types.
