With the score standing at four points to two in favor of the Europeans, the next six matches will decide which team has adapted to the unique conditions of the Barnsley Metrodome's single lane installation and the pressure of a closely packed 500-seat stadium adding to the distractions.
Last night saw a record Friday night crowd tense with excitement with some fabulous matches and with Europe currently in the driving seat it will be eager anticipation of their quartet 'spanking the Yanks' through today's two six-match sessions.
This afternoon the opening match will once again be the Baker team which was won yesterday by Europe, 154-152, perhaps the lowest Baker team score in the 11-year history of the Weber Cup. Then we have the first doubles match, with the bowlers alternating shots. The third match will be singles, then doubles, on to another singles and the session closes with the third doubles.
The second session of this 11th Partycasino. com Weber Cup provided as much excitement as that set last night. The Europeans shot out of the gate by winning yet another Baker team match, which has usually been their historic downfall, but this time the match ended in a convincing 223-180 win.
The the first of three doubles encounters in this session took to the lanes and it was advantage Europe yet again with the Palermaa/Barrett combo easily defeating Barnes/Mack.
Then a singles saw Paul Moor clutch victory from the jaws of defeat from Peter Weber when the American missed a single 7-pin to open the door for Moor to clinch the match by just six pins, doing it with a tenth frame double.
The second doubles brought the europeans their fourth session win and they looked on course to whitewash the Americans. Koivuniemi and Moor settled into their strike zone to defeat Jones and Barnes and advance to a healthy points lead.
Then the final singles match of this session brought a veritable strikefest from Koivuniemi, shooting ten strikes in a row after the first two frames open for 258 to bury Jones, 258-213.
The session ended with a doubles match in which the Americans avoided their whitewash, taking the final point, 213-202, the Europeans once again rueing a missed single pin which could have made the final result so much closer.
