Bowlers Journal International has served bowling for more than 80 years. Founded in 1913 by Dave Luby (1857-1925),
an enterprising shoe salesman, Bowlers Journal began as an eight page local weekly. Dave Luby's Bowlers Journal
was folksy and quaint, but it was also lively. What he lacked in newspaper experience, he made
up for in devotion to bowling.
In 1925 Dave Luby's son, Mort Luby (1897-1957), became Publisher and brought Bowlers Journal
into the next generation with the name change to Bowlers Journal and Billiard Review.

The magazine continued to grow and was passed on to Mort Luby's son, Mort Jr. in 1956. In 1977, the
name of the magazine returned to Bowlers Journal as Billiards Digest was born.
November 1993 marked the latest title change for the magazine as it embraced the international fever in the sport and celebrated its 80th
Anniversary.
Today, Bowlers Journal International is published by Luby Publishing Inc. and is the
oldest monthly sports publication in the United States and quite possibly the oldest bowling magazine in the world.
