There is a man in the house who loves to bowl on thse Bowling Pedralbes lanes, and that is Ildemaro Ruiz from Venezuela.

Yes, it is a long way to go home for lunch, but Ruiz set the pace here on Tuesday night with 1424 and on his re-entry this evening fell just short of that figure with 1373, robbed of another 1400 series by a couple of splits.

Overall, it was not the highest scoring squad of the series as second to our stocky Venezuelan was Julian Sermand on 1312 and Sweden’s Robert Andersson 1295.

“I bowled this squad because I needed the practice and wanted to feel the reaction of the lanes because I knew they were going to change, and actually they did,” said Ruiz. “The break point is going to be more in the middle of the lanes so I wanted to make sure I will make the right adjustments for the semi-final on Sunday.

“There is still a long way to go but I actually feel pretty good because I am bowling well on the lanes and that is giving me confidence. I think I am making the right choice on the transition when moving my feet and my bowling balls are working really well, so I have to thank Storm and Roto-Grip.

“I’ve been here in Barcelona before, so I will visit a couple of places that I really liked . Tonight I can relax an have a few drinks with my friends.”

Rebecka Larsen from Sweden, a finalist here for the European Women’s Masters last year, moves into second place for the women behind Cassie Staudinger’s 1322 by shooting 1279 including bonus.

The high game remains at 300 shot by Dominic Barrett last night.
