A perfect evening for young Mr Dominic Barrett from Colchester, England, rolling the tournament’s first 300 this year in his

fourth game of the squad and ending with a six-game total of 1418 to slip neatly into third place in the current standings.

A truly talented squad saw brave attempts to keep up with Barrett’s pace but all fell by the wayside as the e nglishman advanced and the rest retreated.

Chris Klerk, a newcomer to the European Tour in San Marino last week, was best of the trailing bunch but only totalled 1332. PBA star Amleto Monacelli looked a threat but was consistently within a few pins of 210 and trailed into fifth whilst Belgium’s Gery Verbruggen varied from 170 to 246 to finish sixth on the squad.

“This was my 33rd 300 game,” Barrett informed us. “I had one last week in San Marino, so that was number 32.

“I’ve got a good feeling for these lanes, although I didn’t have my best result last year. It was just after the accident (suffered in Saudi Arabia) and I actually changed (ball) weights. I’ve actually gone back to 15 pounds. I did try 16 for a while, but I’m back to 15 now and I had a really good travel day today. I had a good night’s sleep, which is unusual when you travel, as you have to be up at the crack of dawn after just a few hours sleep. Today I didn’t have to leave until nine this morning.

“For the first three games tonight my body wasn’t awake. I only had 639 for the first three games, about sixty less than you aim for, then I changed ends and went to lanes one and two and had the 300, then 257 the next game and finished wuth 222.

“I used Storm’s new ball and that was really good. I actually had 16 strikes in a row and the one that I missed was such a bad shot I missed the headpin.

“All the pairs in this bowling center are pretty good. It seems that 11/12 are a pair with a slight difference with characteristics which catch a lot of people out but I bowl here so often that I have got used to that. I think all the lanes play well and I look forward to giving them another go tomorrow.”
