ALL SET FOR THE 14TH MEDITERRANEAN CHALLENGE CUP
A confirmed entry of a record 13 nations will be competing at the hospitable 14-lane Bowling Pedralbes in Barcelona this week, running March 30 through to April 2.
This prestigious annual event has three new nations competing this year, Croatia, Slovenia and Tunisia, joining stalwarts, Catalonia, Cyprus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Israel, Italy, Malta, San Marino and Turkey.
There was hope of one further nation joing this year’s group, but their effort fell though at the last moment.
The Promedia company, under the direction of Jordi Pons, is this year’s host and Roni Ashkanazi from Israel is the tournament director.
Roni Ashkenazi commented: “We are very pleased that the MCC is attracting more countries and it is wonderful to be back here in Barcelona where everything is so well organized. This event is now one big happy family enjoying the friendly competition.”
Competition disciplines include Singles and Doubles for both men and women, Mixed Teams and the televised and web-streamed Masters’ finals are scheduled to commence at 17:00 on Saturday, April 2.
At the Managers’ Meeting on Wednesday morning it was announced that the 2012 Mediterranean Challenge Cup will be hosted by San Marino, March 27 – April 1. The 2013 Cup will be held in Slovenia at dates yet to be announced.
