SWEDISH BID FOR FAME

March 18th, 2011  |  Published in Breaking News

It was Denmark to the fore after yesterday’s second squad, Holland taking over the lead in this morning’s opener, and now the turn of Sweden to gain the public eye as Joline Persson-Planefors hit 1384 to win Squad 6,  slotting neatly into four place in the overall standings, then pass Go into Sunday’s finals.

Joline Persson-Planefors

The 20-year-old native of Gothenburg finished her stint well before most of the other lanes had finished running, her third entry in this year’s Catalonia Open. “I won’t play any more until Sunday’s final rounds,” she told us.

If she keeps up the form she showed today she should go far. He six-game set included only one game under 200, a 179, but she made up for that with a couple of 240s, not including her eight points per game bonus.

Currently 18th in the European Bowling Tour rankings, Joline won the women’s division of the Dubai International earlier this year, her first visit to the Middle East, winning a couple of thousand US dollars to serve as an incentive to visit the duty free at the airport on the way home.

Gery Verbruggen of Belgium, who was inducted into the World Bowling Writers Hall of Fame here during last year’s finals, came second to Joline on this squad with 1361 and Heidi Thorstensen brought Norway into the frame with a third place on 1305.
So no 1400s this time, but two more squads yet to bowl this evening.
