Germany Back in the Frame

Words of wisdom decree that you take very much care when matched against a sick bowler or golfer.

Sascha Hauchwitz

Squad 12 of the Dream Bowl Palace Open contained three ‘sickies’: Mika Koivuniemi, who has been resting for three days with a bad back; Andrew Frawley of Australia, the Kuwait coach, who has been out of things for a couple of days with a neck injury, and Norwegian Tore Togersen, who has been laid low with food poisoning (not, we add from the bowling center meals).
As it turned out, Koivuniemi was leading going into the final game with Torgersen hot on his tail. Frawley was making progress but had to arise from 13th place on the squad.

Game six saw Torgersen post 234 for a 1351 series and Koivuniemi was declared the runner-up, but unknown to the hierarchy it was Sascha Hauchwitz of Germany who was the squad leader with 1356, five pins better than Torgersen.

Hauschwitz, 31, from Berlin, has only bowled the EBT Ballmaster event in Finland before coming to this tournament in Munich, so was pleased to win his way through to tomorrow’s finals. He has been bowling in the German national league for the past ten years but has no ambitions to compete on the european Tour for the rest of this year and is not on the German national team.

With the competition of the soccer match of Germany v Argentina in the quarterfinals of the World Cup, only 18 will take their place on squad 13. Or maybe they are very superstitious.

There was a record 1117 following squad 12 on the local web streaming, a record for timotv. Follow the action on www.bambuser.com/channel/timotv.
