Petite Helen Johnsson from Lund in Sweden set the pace in the opening stage of the Bowltech Aalborg International finals on
Sunday morning, posting 950 over the four games to lead the 24-strong field.
This stage consisted of original qualifiers 25-48 and the top 12 advance to a further four games, joined by qualifiers 13-24. Once again, the top 12 go forward to stage 3, there to have the remaining 12 qualifiers join the fray.
Johnsson took first place from fellow countryman Mikael Kanold (924) and Danish national Mik Stampe was third on 897.
Ghislaine van der Tol took twelfth place as the cut came at 838. she would have been 13th but for a 7-10 split suffered by Kirsten Penny of England with the final ball of the last game.
