John Jowdy got a nice present for his 90th birthday: election to the Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame.

The long-time coach and author of two instructional books will be honored during a general session at International Bowl Expo in Las Vegas on June 28.

Jowdy is a long-time Columbia 300 representative who is credited with forming the first “pro staff” on the PBA Tour. Team Columbia led to the development of similar groups of bowlers representing other ball manufacturing companies.

For many years, Jowdy traveled with the tour, lending instructional tips to countless future Hall of Famers — whether they were Team Columbia members or not.

In 2006, Jowdy received the prestigious Tom Kouros Outstanding Coach Award from the World Bowling Writers. His coaching expertise also brought him election to the PBA and USBC  Halls of Fame.

The Bowling Coaches Hall of Fame Committee also selected two individuals for “Trailblazer” awards: Joe Kristof and Jeanette Robison.
