Some of the big guns of international bowling fired their first salvoes on Tuesday evening and two Malaysians were in the top three places of Squad 7.
Adrian Ang, whose medals, trophies and press releases grace the complete wall of a restaurant in
Penang, Malaysia hit 1470 to be the highest of four scores over 1400. He was 19 pins ahead of famed American pro bowler Parker Bohn III, a man finding a liking for international bowling a little late in his outstanding career, Ang’s team-mate Zulmazran Zulkifli came third with 1411 and talented Canadian Mark Buffa squeezed in with 1401.
A single pin became the narrow margin for women’s honors as American Carolyn Dorin-Ballard displaced Marie Gauton of France from the distaff leader board with 1398, also on Squad 7. Gauton had held that lead from Squad 4.
As can be seen in the standings below, Ang’s 1470 now slots neatly into third place in the overall standings and Parker Bohn holds fourth.
Two squads take to the Plaza Bowling lanes on Wednesday, at 17:00 and 21:00 and among the celebrities will be WBW Hall of Fame member Bill Hoffman, along with a trio of Singaporians making their debut. A further bunch of Malaysians booked into the 21:00 squad includes another WBW Hall of Famer, Shalin Zulkifli, arguably the finnest Asian woman bowler ever.
